Allina, a gray wolf, walked through the plaza. It was one of those days when there were so many wolves around her, and their chatter was deafening. She couldn't hear herself think. She wondered if they were talking of her brother, and his horrible death. She missed him very much. He was one of the few that had used to pay attention to her. But now, because of his blood color, he was dead and gone. She was still shaken from the loss. Perhaps they were talking about how strange he was. His missing eye, the notch from his ear, the scars that had stayed on his flank, and had originally festered every summer.. Which reminded her of her surroundings.

The warm, sticky summer air made her gray fur cling to her, showing a strong, muscled frame, that would have intimidated lesser wolves. There was no breeze to cool any wolf down, making brains overheat. Narrowing her sea-colored eyes, she peered across the plaza, searching for shelter from the rising temperature. Seeing none, she decided to sit by the statue. Whatever human this had been, they didn't matter now. All they were was lost to her pack. Not that they cared. To any wolf, he or she was just another face that ruined the Earth. Perhaps, one day, they would go down like the humans had. Perhaps they would end up with that human on the cross that she saw everywhere. The one humans had stalked to in times of trouble, her mother had told her. Jesus, was it? One day, perhaps.

Not this hot summer day. She had been sitting for quite some time, waiting for other wolves. None spoke to her much, but she didn't mind. It was their way of telling her they cared. Allina rose, dragged her paws over the warm stone that made the floor of the plaza, and crossed to the other end, to the shade, and squinted through the powerful noonday sun, watching, waiting for a chance to be social. To talk to other wolves, to use her own, quiet, disused rasp of a voice. What a beautiful dream to fulfil. If only others would SPEAK.

The white wolf, Alue, slowly walked along the side of walls to catch some shade. Her head was held level to her shoulders and her ears were pinned back. She had already shed most of her winter coat. Alue was an arctic wolf, so she hated the heat no matter how short her fur got. Her perfect white fur seemed to cling to each other and bounce about as she moved. Alue's icy blue eyes traveled to each group of chatting wolves as she walked by. Most of them were talking about hunting; some were talking about that odd symptomed wolf that had recently been killed. Oh how Alue hated the wolves in the Bloodtails. This wasn't the way Bloodtails were meant to be. Wolves shouldn't kill any symptoms without feeling threatened first. You could call Alue crazy, but that was her belief. When Alue has a belief as strong as that one, you should not even try to change it.

The beautiful wolf lifted her head when she stepped into a large shadow. Though it was still hot, the shade was cooler than being outside. Alue stopped walking for a short break. She turned her head to her right, looking at her tail. She waved her tail two times as she examined her half-covered-in-blood tail. Why had she branded herself into one particular group with blood? Alue shook her head with a straight face. After a short yawn, she continued on her way. Alue used to not be this way… broken… never smiling… Alue was a very fun wolf to be around. Alue was nice and actually cared about the wolves around her. Maybe she still has that wolf deep inside of her somewhere, but it was chained up where Alue couldn’t see it.

Alue came to the main gather place of all the Bloodtails. There were too many wolves for her liking crowded around. All at once, the sun hit her white fur as she stepped out from the shadows. Alue gave a groan as she felt the heat set in all over her. The only shade here was where she had just come from, and the statue in the middle of the clearing. She would never retrace her steps if she had just made them, so she was forced to seek shade by the statue.

Alue walked in an average paced walk to the statue, weaving through the crowd of wolves. Her icy blue eyes finally spotted the statue, but there was one problem… a wolf was already there. Alue’s decision had already been set to lay in the shade, so she would just have to deal with it. “Mind if I join you?” Alue asked in an approachable tone to the wolf, “I don’t like the heat and this is the only shade I can find.” Alue added, her icy blue eyes locking on the resting wolf.
